Every au pair in Ireland should receive at least 75 euros per week . The au pair salary varies, depending on the amount of hours, between 75 and 100 euros per week, which means between 300 and 400 euros per month .
The social security system in Ireland is financed mainly by contributions. People who earn less than 38 euros per week don’t have to pay contributions. Everybody who earns more than that, including au pairs, has to pay into the social security system. If you already have health insurance in your country, you only have to apply for a European health insurance card. It is advisable to also take out a casualty and/or liability insurance policy.
If you want to drive in Ireland , you should talk to your host family about their car insurance to clarify who is to be held responsible in case of an accident.
In what country was your driver’s license issued? For countries of the EU or EFTA: your driver’s license is valid in all of Ireland.
Switzerland, South Korea, South Africa, Jersey, Japan, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Australia: you have to register in Ireland and then you can drive in Ireland for one year.
Other countries: if you have a national or international driver’s license, you can drive for up to 12 months in Ireland. If you want to stay longer, you have to apply for a driver’s license in Ireland.
