AU PAIR WORKING HOURS IN IRELAND

On average, au pairs in Ireland work between 25 and 35 hours per week.

 

  • babysitting: 3 nights per week (as part of the regular working hours, no additional hours)
  • free time: 2 days per week
  • vacation: 2 weeks per year

 

AU PAIR SALARY IN IRELAND

Every au pair in Ireland should receive at least 75 Euros per week. The au pair salary varies, depending on the amount of hours, between 75 and 100 Euros per week, which means between 300 and 400 Euros per month.

 

DURATION OF THE AU PAIR STAY IN IRELAND

Most host families in Ireland are looking for an au pair that can stay between 6 and 12 months. In the summer, there is also the possibility to stay for only 3 months as a summer au pair. The best months to start your au pair stay in Ireland are August/September.

 

HEALTH INSURANCE IN IRELAND

The social security system in Ireland is financed mainly by contributions. People who earn less than 38 Euros per week don't have to pay contributions. Everybody who earns more than that, including au pairs, has to pay into the social security system. If you already have health insurance in your country, you only have to apply for a European health insurance card. It is advisable to also take out a casualty and/or liability insurance policy.

 

DRIVER'S LICENSE IN IRELAND

If you want to drive in Ireland, you should talk to your host family about their car insurance to clarify who is to be held responsible in case of an accident.

 

 

In what country was your driver's license issued?

  1. For countries of the EU or EFTA: your driver's license is valid in all of Ireland.
  2. Switzerland, South Korea, South Africa, Jersey, Japan, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Australia: you have to register in Ireland and then you can drive in Ireland for one year.
  3. Other countries: if you have a national or international driver's license, you can drive for up to 12 months in Ireland. If you want to stay longer, you have to apply for a driver's license in Ireland.

The host family has to provide free accommodation and food, even if you get sick or if you are on vacation.

 

AU PAIR ENTRY REGULATIONS IN IRELAND

Before you travel to Ireland, you should check whether your travel document, your ID or passport, is still valid. Your travel document has to be valid for at least 3 months longer than the duration of your au pair stay in Ireland.

 

LANGUAGE COURSES IN IRELAND

Au pairs in Ireland can take language classes. You have to pay for the course yourself. The prices are between 4 and 10 Euros per class.

 

The host family usually pays for your transportation to and from the language school because public transportation is pretty expensive. Some au pair families provide a car or bike.
