  • high school diploma
  • experience with children

 

AU PAIR WORKING HOURS IN SWEDEN

  • not more than 6 hours per day

 

Normally, an au pair works about 5 hours per day. However, your working hours should not exceed 30 hours per week. You get one day off per week. As an au pair in a Swedish host family you will take care of the children and help with little chores in the house.

 

Usually, au pairs don't get any vacation in Sweden, but it is possible to talk about an individual agreement with your host family, so you will be able to take some vacation days. After an au pair stay of 6 months, an au pair usually gets one week of paid vacation.

 

AU PAIR SALARY IN SWEDEN

The au pair salary in Sweden depends on the amount of hours that you work per week. Right now, the average au pair salary is 3600 SEK per months (360 Euros). Most host families in Sweden pay for you to use the public transportation, or they might let you use their car or get you a bike.

 

DURATION OF AN AU PAIR STAY IN SWEDEN

You can work as an au pair in Sweden between 6 months and 1 year. Most host families are looking for an au pair that can stay between 9 and 12 months with them.

 

HEALTH INSURANCE IN SWEDEN

Get in touch with your health insurance company before leaving for Sweden to find out if you are covered in Sweden. If you are from another country of the European Union, all you need is the European health insurance card. If you don't have that card, you should apply for it.

 

DRIVER'S LICENSE AS AN AU PAIR

Most host families in Sweden live in the country, and there are great distances between cities. Therefore, it is very useful to have a driver's license if you want to work as an au pair in Sweden.

 

AU PAIR EXPENSES IN SWEDEN

You have to pay for your travel costs to Sweden. However, there are some host families that pay for part of the travel expenses after the au pair stay.

 

AU PAIR ENTRY REGULATIONS IN SWEDEN

You need a passport or an ID to enter Sweden. The documents should be valid until at least 3 months after the end of your au pair stay in Sweden. After you arrive in Sweden, you have to apply for a work permit. Your host family will help you with this. You will need a job offer from the host family in order to get this permit. Along with the job offer, you also have to have confirmation of a Swedish course.

 

In Sweden, the department for employment (arbetsmiljöverket) is responsible for au pairs.

 

LANGUAGE COURSE IN SWEDEN

You should take language classes in Sweden. The au pair usually pays for the classes. You can find good and cheap language courses at one of the many Adult Education Centers. There are also many other interesting courses that you can take at these centers.

 

GRANNY AU PAIR IN SWEDEN

Granny au pairs are very popular in Sweden. A granny au pair is a woman over 50 that wants to spend some time abroad, learn a new language, live with a host family and take care of their children, and help with the house work.
