Language courses in Belgium can be divided into three different categories:

  1. slow-paced (4 -10 hours per week)
  2. intensive (15 - 20 hours per week)
  3. full time (20 - 40  hours per week or more)


Costs and Prices

Even if many host families in Belgium pay for part of the language course, officially, the au pair has to pay for the classes. Nevertheless, it might be a good idea to talk to your host family about this beforehand. The prices for language courses in Belgium change constantly. We recommend picking a few language schools that you like and comparing their prices.


The prices range between 100 Euros and 1000 Euros or more for a full time course per week. Private classes are the fastest and most effective way of learning a language, but usually also the most expensive.
