There are many language schools to choose from, the best schools being in the big cities, such as Zurich or Basel. In Switzerland, you can find any type of language course, from private classes to courses in small groups to courses in adult educational centers (Volkhochschulen). Every certified language institute offers various types of language courses: the course length, class size and price are different at every language school.

If you work as an au pair in the French part of Switzerland, you have to complete 120 hours  of language classes – in other parts of Switzerland au pairs have to take at least 4 hours per week.

The vocational schools offer the cheapest language courses, being about 15 Swiss Francs per hour. For private lessons you will pay between 20 and 30 Swiss Francs per hour, and the courses at the Berlitz language schools, at 50 Swiss Francs per hour, are among the most expensive.
